I have been playing basketball since I was 7 years old.
I have been lucky to have experienced Hoopla, which is the annual provincial championship tournament in Saskatchewan. I also played three years with the Jr. Huskies (the Huskies are the University of Saskatchewan Basketball team). Every year I would also play in the Saskatoon Minor Basketball Association league and took part in Basketball Saskatchewan camps and training programs.
When I was in Grade 11, in an effort to give back, I started to referee and coach. These new experiences and perspective gave me confidence and a sense of achievement.
My Grade 12 year, shortly before playoffs, I tore my ACL. Needless to say, I was devastated. Surgery was followed by a nine-month recovery. I trained hard and am happy to say I recently took part in a competitive three on three University of Saskatchewan basketball tournament; winning 1st place.
I love to play the game; I love the endurance and skill component as well as the speed and strategy. What gives me a sense of satisfaction is coaching. This is my third year coaching a Basketball Saskatchewan team. This year I am co-coaching a 13 and under girls team with my good friend Kelsey. Today was our first game in a tournament in Saskatoon. We were successful in that we won the game, but more importantly I am proud of the hard work, determination and team spirit displayed.
